Conference attendees must review and agree to HBES Code of Conduct terms described in the Policy Summary prior to registration. If attendees experience or witness events that cause concern, they should contact a member of the grievance committee and review the options described in the full Code of Conduct.
There will be three Pre-Conference sessions held concurrently on Wednesday, May 29th from 9 am – 12 noon at the George Sherman Union. Attendees can select one Pre-Conference session to attend for $10 per person. Attendees may only attend one Pre-Conference session as they will run concurrently.
1) Pre-Conference #1: “Statistics and Methods Workshop Series: How to do Open Science”
The second installation of the annual Statistics and Methods Workshop Series will be focused on how to do open science. Julia Juenger and Lars Penke will be running this hands-on workshop, covering topics such as using the Open Science Framework, preregistering hypotheses, and registered reports.
2) Pre-Conference #2: “Connecting Minds in Social Neuroendocrinology and Evolution”
This pre-conference meeting (organized by Amanda Hahn & Jaime Palmer-Hague) is an opportunity to connect new and established researchers who are investigating the social influences and effects of both endogenous and exogenous hormones in the context of human evolution. Click here to submit an abstract to present at this pre-conference.
3) Pre-Conference #3: “Integrated Approaches to Research on Culture: Professional and Practical Considerations”
Research on psychology within and across cultural contexts benefits from collaboration across traditional disciplinary boundaries. This pre-conference (organized by Peter R. Blake, Katherine McAuliffe & Felix Warneken) will focus on the pragmatic side of those collaborations with discussions on cross-training and career paths; forming or joining research networks; and publications and grants.

Child Care (Tentative)
Humans are mammals and parental care is a thing! At HBES 2019 we will have a nursing/lactation room reserved within the conference venue, and we are looking into offering subsidized child care onsite throughout the conference.
Because this is the first time we are trying to do this, we are still working out the feasibility and if there is sufficient demand. We have a contract with a licensed company to come in and provide care and activities (1:2 ratio for infants and 1:5 ratio for older kids). If we get enough interest to make it work, the HBES executive committee has pledged to subsidize a portion of the bill. If so, childcare will be available during the full day of each conference day, 8 am – 6pm Wednesday – Friday, and 8 am – 9 pm Saturday) and will cost as currently projected $200 per child (after considering HBES’s sponsorship). If there is not enough demand to make the contract work, you will be notified by April 5th and issued a full refund for the child care purchased. We are still looking for other funding sources and if we are able to get more of the cost donated, or for whatever reason we are able to get the cost down, we will refund as much of this fee as we can.
Registration will close on Friday, May 24, 2019 at noon EDT. Please email email@example.com for late registration details.
